A Legacy Since 1974

Founded in 1974 by Mrs. Cynthia Kniffin and her husband, David, Cynthia Kniffin Dance Academy has a long-standing tradition of dance education rooted in discipline, creativity, and community. What began as a passion for sharing the art of dance has grown into a studio known throughout the Norwalk area for strong training, thoughtful instruction, and meaningful performance opportunities.

That legacy continues today through every class, rehearsal, and performance. At CKDA, dancers of all ages are guided in a supportive environment that values growth, artistic expression, and a lasting appreciation for the art of dance.

Our Approach To Dance

At CKDA, we continue to prioritize strong technical training, confident performance skills, and artistic expression over competition. Our goal is to foster a lasting love of dance while supporting each student’s individual growth.

In every class, dancers develop discipline, creativity, and confidence within a structured yet supportive environment. Instruction is thoughtfully designed to build a strong foundation while allowing students to progress at their own pace.

A Studio Rooted in Performance

Our dancers are given meaningful opportunities to perform throughout the year, culminating in a full-scale story ballet presented every other year. These performances bring the entire studio together and allow students to experience the artistry and discipline of the stage.

Long-Term Confidence & Growth

Without the pressure of competition scoring, dancers can focus on steady improvement, self-confidence, and a genuine love for dance.

Teamwork Over Trophies

Students work together toward a shared production, building collaboration, responsibility, and a sense of belonging within the group.

Deeper Artistic Development

A performance-focused approach encourages musicality, expression, and character work, helping dancers connect emotionally to their movement.

Real Performance Experience

Dancers learn how to perform for a live audience, developing stage presence, confidence, and the ability to tell a story through movement—not just execute steps.

A True Performance Experience

Training dancers to grow in confidence, artistry, and stage presence through meaningful performance opportunities.
